Traffic stop leads to drug charges in Coxheath


RCMP Northeast Traffic Services arrested a man for a drug offence after a traffic stop on Hwy. 125.

On February 7th at 8:20 p.m., a police officer was conducting radar enforcement in Coxheath when he observed a vehicle travelling 126 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.


A traffic stop was initiated.

During the traffic stop, RCMP observed drugs in the vehicle.


The driver, a 21-year-old Sydney woman, and the passenger, a 45-year-old Sydney man, were safely arrested.


RCMP say the vehicle was searched and cocaine was seized.

The driver was released from custody and issued a summary offence ticket for exceeding the posted speed limit.


The passenger was released on an appearance notice and will be facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.


The man will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on April 20th.

The investigation is ongoing.
