NSUARB confirms carbon tax on Canada Day and July 7th

Nova Scotians will be heading to the pumps before the long weekend.

Officials with the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board say gas, diesel and home heating oil will be going up on Canada Day and again the following Friday.

The federal carbon tax will add 14.31 cents per litre on the price of gasoline and 17.38 cents per litre on the price of diesel oil.

That's not all.

The Clean Fuel Regulations require suppliers to reduce the carbon intensity of gasoline and diesel oil.

There are different ways that can be done, however, there is a cost of taking action.

That cost will be applied at the wholesaler level in Nova Scotia for regulated gasoline and diesel oil beginning on July 7th, which is the next regular weekly pricing.

At that time 3.74 cents per litre will be added to gasoline and 4.17 cents per litre will be added to the price of diesel oil.

That means, over the next week and a half, gas will go up at least 18.05 cents per litre and diesel oil will go up at least 21.55 cents per litre.
