UPDATE: 31-year-old faces murder charges after Sydney Mines assault

One man is facing murder charges after an assault on Cape Breton Island.
The man arrested in connection with the Sydney Mines incident on June 14th now faces a charge of second degree murder.
31-year-old Tyler Anthony MacNeil of Georges River, was remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre after an investigation by the Cape Breton Regional Police Major Crime Unit, with assistance from Forensic Identification officers and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
While the investigation is ongoing, police continue to treat this as an isolated incident.

Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating the death of a man believed to be the victim of an assault.
Police say officers were called to Beech Street in Sydney Mines early Tuesday morning.
Cape Breton Regional Police say a person from the neighbourhood called 9-1-1 at 3:30 a.m.
They discovered a man lying on the road with serious injuries and began administering CPR until the arrival of EHS.
The ambulance transported him to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
A man is in custody.
Officers located him in the area of Cambridge Street and Clyde Avenue, with the help of witness information.
Major Crime, Forensic Identification and K-9 officers were called to the investigation, and are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death and confirm the identity of the victim.
Police are treating this as an isolated incident with no greater risk to public safety.
