Man faces eight charges after domestic disturbance in CBRM

A 30-year-old man from Millville is now in police custody after an incident that started at an apartment building in Sydney.

Cape Breton Regional Police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance Thursday just before midnight.

Officers arrived to a group of individuals, all known to each other, including one who drove off in a vehicle at a high rate of speed.

Police say they attempted to stop the vehicle, but discontinued the pursuit in the interest of safety.

Cape Breton Regional Police later received information that the suspect was at a residence on Maple Hill Drive in the Millville / Big Bras d’Or area, where he was then arrested with assistance from Victoria County RCMP.

Officers say they located the vehicle he was driving and found ammunition inside.

Major Crime Investigators, with assistance from the Forensic Identification Unit, continue to investigate, including search warrants for the vehicle and residence and statements from parties present at the Esplanade incident.

Colin James Penny is charged with discharging a firearm, possession of a weapon, assault with a weapon, flight from police, assault police and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The 30-year-old man will appear in Sydney Provincial Court on Monday.
