Man charged after Sydney robbery

Cape Breton Regional Police caught and charged a 36-year-old man for robbing Needs Convenience on George Street Sunday night.

Officers responded to an alarm at the store shortly after 11 p.m., where the clerk reported a man approached the counter.

The 36-year-old said he had a weapon and demanded cash.

The suspect left the store with cash and cigarettes.

Forensic Identification and K-9 officers attended the scene.

A short time later, officers on patrol in the area of Townsend Street observed a person matching the description of the suspect.

The man ran from police, but officers caught up with him on foot near Bentinck and George Streets, where he was arrested.

After further investigation, Shawn Robert Hall of Sydney was remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Centre and charged with Robbery and several Breaches of a Probation Order.

No one was injured in the incident.
