Job cuts at Acadia Broadcasting

Eleven staff members have been let go from Acadia Broadcasting.

The company, owned by John Irving, owns and operates eighteen radio stations in total, including one on Cape Breton Island.

On March 11th 2019, the CRTC approved the sale of 1015 The Hawk(CIGO-FM) from MacEachern Broadcasting.

Acadia also operates in Halifax, Bridgewater, Yarmouth, New Brunswick, and Ontario.

Reports say the company-wide layoffs include one staff member in Port Hawkesbury.

Acadia President Chris Pearson blames COVID-19.

"The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020 have been many.
Like many others, we have had to adjust our business to the reality we face today.”
