Cape Breton Eagles hire new head coach

The Cape Breton Eagles have named Chadd Cassidy as the new head coach.

Cassidy comes to Cape Breton with 20 years of coaching experience including time spent in the AHL, USHL and with the US national team development program.

The Cape Breton Eagles president says Cassidy will bring coaching experience to the team.

Gerard Shaw says they are thrilled to have him join the team.

“Chadd’s background in the development of young players, coupled with his consistent success at the pro level and the US national program make him a good fit for our team.”

In 2016 Cassidy was inducted into the New York State Coaches Hall of Fame, the youngest coach to ever receive this honour.

Cassidy says his family is happy to be moving to Cape Breton Island.

“I am honored and excited to be the next Head Coach of the Cape Breton Eagles. The rich history and tradition of hockey in Cape Breton speaks for itself. My family and I can’t wait to get started and are looking forward to becoming part of the Eagles family“.

Cassidy will arrive in Cape Breton in the coming weeks, pending the approval of his Canadian work permit.
