Cafe in Mabou closing after two months

A local cafe that just opened in November is closing their doors for good.

Cala Na Mara, owned by Heather, Cookie and Genevieve Rankin of The Rankin Family, will close on January 9th.

In a statement posted to social media, the sisters say supply chain issues, unforeseen challenges, and the delayed initial opening by several months makes it unfeasible to sustain operation during the quietest time of the year.

Here's the full post from Cala Na Mara's Facebook page.

"To our friends, neighbours, community, and customers...
After a lot of careful consideration, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close Cala Na Mara.
Our final days open will be from January 4th through January 9th, 2023.
Supply chain issues, unforeseen challenges, and the delayed initial opening by several months sadly, made it unfeasible to sustain our operation during the quietest time of the year.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to our amazing team.
Thank you for your dedication, talent, and hard work these past few months.
We also want to thank our community and customers for your support—we appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.
As we prepare for our closure, one of our priorities is ensuring that customers with outstanding gift cards can redeem them for goods at the café or be reimbursed fully for their value.
If you have a gift card for Cala Na Mara Cafe, please visit the Cala Cafe between January 4th – January 9th to redeem in store or be reimbursed the full cash value.
Hours of operation are 7am to 3pm.
We understand that some gift card holders will not be able to see us in person between January 4th – January 9th.
We are currently working with our point-of-sale provider on alternative solutions and will be providing an update in the coming days.
Please know that we are committed to reimbursing all gift cards.
We thank you for your patience, your kindness and your understanding.
Sincerely,
Cookie, Heather and Genevieve"

The sisters also own the world-famous Red Shoe Pub in Mabou.

Cala Na Mara's last day of business will be Monday January 9th.
