Antigonish RCMP respond to seven vehicle thefts over the weekend


Antigonish RCMP are investigating a rash of vehicle thefts that occurred over the weekend in the Antigonish area.


1. On January 7th, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Antigonish Co. District RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy. 316 in St. Andrews. RCMP officers learned that a passerby observed a Volkswagen Jetta on its roof in the ditch and that no one was present in or around the vehicle. Officers located stolen catalytic converters, tools, clothing, and various personal items. All items were seized and transported to the Antigonish RCMP Detachment.


2. At approximately 2:30 a.m. on January 8th, Antigonish Co. District RCMP responded to a report of a Ford Focus that was off the road near the intersection of Hwy. 4 and West St. in Antigonish. Officers learned that the vehicle was stolen and officers located personal items in the vehicle. The vehicle owner was located and the vehicle was released to them.


3. At approximately 7:25 a.m., Antigonish Co. District RCMP responded to a report of a theft from a Honda HRV that was parked in a hospital parking lot. Stolen from the vehicle was a wallet.


4. Officers also located and seized a Kia Sorento in the hospital parking lot and determined that it was stolen from the Lower Sackville area on January 6th.


5. At approximately 1:25 p.m., Antigonish Co. District RCMP responded to a report of a black 2019 Toyota Tacoma stolen from a parking lot on Smith Way in Antigonish. The vehicle theft occurred sometime between 10 p.m. on January 7th and 1 p.m. on January 8th. The Tacoma was bearing Nova Scotia license plate GWD286 when it was stolen. If you have any information about the 2019 Toyota Tacoma, you are asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.


6. At approximately 2:45 p.m., Antigonish Co. District RCMP responded to a report of a black Toyota Corolla that was stolen from a parking lot on West St. in Antigonish. The vehicle theft occurred sometime between 10 p.m. on January 7th and 2:20 p.m. on January 8th. The vehicle was located on January 9th around 3:40 a.m. in Pictou Co. and a traffic stop was attempted. The vehicle fled but was later located abandoned on Pleasant St. in Stellarton.


7. At approximately 3:35 p.m., Antigonish Co. District RCMP responded to a report of a white Nissan Micra that was stolen from outside of an apartment building on Haley Rd. in Antigonish. The vehicle theft occurred sometime between 9 p.m. on January 7th and 3:30 p.m. on January 8th. The vehicle was located abandoned on Westville Rd. in Pictou County on January 9th.


The recovered vehicles were seized by RCMP and will be returned to their owners.


Many of these vehicles were not locked at the time they were stolen or rummaged through.


Nova Scotia RCMP continues to ask you to remove your keys and lock the door when not in use.


Police say the investigations are ongoing.
