93 cruise ships set to visit Cape Breton this year


The Port of Sydney will welcome cruise

ships back to Cape Breton Island in 2022.


The cruise schedule indicates over 90 vessels will visit Sydney between May and November.


The fall season has historically been the busiest cruise months and this season 70% of ships are visiting between September 1st and November 4th.

The 2022 season will see the long-awaited use of the second berth to host a cruise vessel.

This addition will allow for two cruise ships of up to 360m to be docked at the same time.


2022 season highlights:

-93 ships


-18 cruise lines


-May 23rd will see the first cruise ship at Liberty Pier


-18 multiple ship days

-186,830 passengers and 79,851 crew (at full capacity)


-Louisbourg will be a bustling niche port expecting 10 calls this season beginning in late April.

In 2019, the Port of Sydney saw a record cruise season with over $60 million in economic impact for Cape Breton Island.
