19-year-old charged with attempted murder


Eskasoni RCMP charged a man with attempted murder after a weapon was discharged towards a vehicle on Castle Bay Rd. in Eskasoni.


Police say this took place at approximately 3:35 a.m. on April 20th.


Officers learned that a white SUV, occupied by three people, was leaving a home on Castle Bay Rd. when a shot was fired at the vehicle, resulting in the rear window shattering.


The victims fled the area and no one was injured.

RCMP investigators gathered information and evidence as part of the investigation and they identified the 19-year-old Eskasoni man who shot at the vehicle.


They attended a home on Castle Bay Rd. and safely took the man into custody.


He was transported to the RCMP detachment where he was lodged in cells.

Investigators remained at the home and located two replica firearms, a machete and a cell phone.


These items were seized as part of the investigation.

Charlie James Francis, 19, of Eskasoni, has been charged with the following:

  • Attempted Murder with a Firearm (3 counts);

  • Uttering Threats (3 counts);

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;

  • Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence;

  • Assault;

  • Mischief under $5,000.

Francis has been remanded into custody and will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today.
